I’ll show you how to loosen up your sketching with elegant line, rhythm, and colour in this 1 hour 12 minute online workshop. Drawing from my book Line & Wash in the Urban Landscape, I’ll guide you through my process for painting a beautiful street scene, giving you an over-the-shoulder view as I work.

Along the way, you’ll learn how to simplify complex urban scenes into confident, expressive lines, build a sense of rhythm and flow in your compositions, and use colour in a fresh, intuitive way to bring your sketches to life. I’ll share practical techniques for combining line and wash effectively, creating depth and atmosphere, and knowing when to add detail—and when to hold back. You’ll also gain insight into my decision-making process in real time, helping you develop a more relaxed, personal approach to your own urban sketching.
